CS2 Competitive Cooldowns & Ban Times (2026)
A competitive cooldown is a temporary matchmaking ban in Counter-Strike 2. Unlike a VAC ban, cooldowns are minor and expire on their own — but they escalate quickly if you keep earning them. Here's the cooldown ladder, what triggers it, and how to stay out of it.
CS2 cooldown levels & how long they last
Cooldowns escalate through tiers. Each new offence within the tracking window bumps you to the next level:
| Level | Cooldown length |
|---|---|
| Level 1 | 30 minutes |
| Level 2 | 2 hours |
| Level 3 | 24 hours |
| Level 4 | 7 days |
Your cooldown level slowly decays over time if you play cleanly (roughly a week without a new offence steps it back down). Stack offences quickly, though, and you'll jump straight toward the 7-day ban.
What triggers a competitive cooldown
- Abandoning a match (leaving and not returning) — the most common cause.
- Kicking / being kicked too often, or too many votekicks.
- Team damage / team killing above the allowed threshold.
- Excessive team flashing or griefing.
- Failing to connect or being AFK at the start of a match.
How to avoid comp bans
- Never abandon — reconnect if you disconnect; even a lost game is better than a cooldown.
- Watch your utility around teammates (nades, incendiaries, flashes).
- Queue when you can finish the game — don't start a match you can't play out.
- Keep your account healthy. Repeated reports also drag your trust factor down, which worsens your lobbies. A clean, established profile helps — see how to increase your CS2 trust factor.
Cooldowns are recoverable and don't mark your profile permanently — but they're a warning sign. Fix the behaviour early and your level resets back to zero.
